The International competition will be held in Anaheim, California, from April 26th to May 1st.  This is a combined event, National and International contestant as students from around the world will be competing at this event.

Mr. Richards and the DECA students are invited to the May Board Meeting to be recognized for their excellence.  Also, we would like to thank Mr. Richard for his service and leadership of our CAS Business Education Programs/DECA.  Mr. Richard has been the foundation of the CTE Business Education programs and will be retiring after this school year.  We wish him well as he embarks on a new chapter.

Eclipse on Monday

As you know, the eclipse will begin tomorrow afternoon around 2:40.  Around 3:14, totality of the eclipse will be closest for our area.  The event will conclude by 4:25.   Each school building will be taking safety precautions tomorrow and talking with students about the educational significance and historical value of the eclipse during the school day.  Unfortunately, we will be releasing school around the time that the eclipse starts tomorrow.  Some parents have requested to pick their student/child up a little early tomorrow afternoon so that they may enjoy the eclipse as a family and/or take advantage of some of the eclipse activities that are scheduled downtown Cheboygan in the early afternoon tomorrow.  If parents select this option, the absence from school in the afternoon will obviously be excused.

Also, if you have questions and concerns about how and/or where to observe the eclipse tomorrow, there are plenty of resources available online.  During the last eclipse, I was fortunate to be able to view a full eclipse in Carbondale, Illinois, which was a wonderful experience.  If you are still looking for some advice and tips, you may want to start with this link:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2024/04/05/solar-eclipse-safety-tips/

PT Conferences on Wednesday!

Also, conferences will be consistently scheduled across the district this month on Wednesday, April 10th, from 12:30 to 3:30.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to reach out to your teacher or teachers to make a connection.  I believe strongly that parents that connect with their teachers and work together to provide the best learning environment for their child and are the most successful.  Even if things are going well for your child right now, I would still encourage you to connect and start creating that personal bank account with your teacher…someday you may need to make a withdrawal!

Also, I understand the convenience of phone calls and zoom meetings as a means to meet with your teacher for PT conferences.  However, if you can meet with your teacher in person, face to face, I believe that creates a much stronger relationship than one that is created over a telephone or via a zoom meeting.  And, if you can’t make it between 12:30-3:30 on April 10th, still reach out to your teacher and see if they schedule 15 minutes at some other time, or on some other day.  What is most important, is that you meet and create the common goal and/or pathway for your child’s academic and social and emotional success and well-being.  It takes a village to raise a child.

Book Study – “Drive” by Daniel H. Pink:

I wanted to thank everyone in the book study for participating in last week’s group discussion.  I thought the discussion was great and very enlightening.  Your energy and passion for discussion and digging deeper into the content was educationally invigorating.  I believe sometimes the best, and easiest way to learn, is from each other.  We have a lot of smart people in this school district and that live in this community.  The people we live with and work with should always be our first resource for educational wealth.  Good stuff!  FYI - I will be sending out Chapter 4 discussion questions later this week.

Bootcamp/Healthy Lifestyle Update:

It is great to see Cheboygan folks getting outside and enjoying the warmer weather this weekend.  Something as simple as a brisk walk downtown or around the “Children’s Trail” for 30-45 minutes can be great for your health.  I try to get out at least twice a week, preferably three times, to walk for 60 minutes.  That combined with 2-3 days of resistance or weight training is a very good week for me.   Do a little bit more today than you did yesterday and you will be on the right path.

If you wish to learn more about the Children’s Trail, and what a wonderful please to learn and walk, please try:  https://www.us23heritageroute.org/location.asp?ait=av&aid=5819
